The Making of a Man

"Shah Rukh Khan"

*Born on November 2, Shah Rukh Khan is a typical Scorpio. One also realises that he loves going down memory lane, remembering his fun-filled adolescent years. And while doing so, he reveals li'l details of his growing years!

As a teenager, what posters adorned the walls of your room?

Mine! (laughs) Seriously, I don't think I had any posters on my walls, but yes, my all-time favourite actors were Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan.

Who was the first actress you ever fancied? Why?

Mumtaz! I remember imitating her, especially her walk. I just loved her walk, I loved the sway... She was sexy, she had great style.

Did you ever shoot a living creature with an air rifle?

No! Even at that age, I was into achievements, like winning medals, getting high percentages in studies or pulling pranks on teachers and friends.

Did you ever get into trouble with the police?

Never! But I definitely got into trouble with my teachers.

What games did you play?

Cricket, hockey, football. I was the captain of all the teams.

Which was the first music cassette you bought?

I really don't remember... I love music, I love singing and dancing. I remember playing the radio and dancing to entertain everyone at home.

Which was the most expensive item you owned as a kid?

Again, I remember being given whatever I asked for. We were never deprived of anything. I have never been materialistic, so the expense of the item never mattered to me.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to join the army. Then I thought of doing my MBA, but couldn't continue studies after a year. So I took up Mass Communications and became an actor. Even in my wildest dreams I never thought I'd become an actor. It was totally accidental.

When did you first become fashion conscious?

I was never and am still not fashion conscious. I usually wear whatever I'm comfortable in - mostly jeans and a shirt. Gauri usually selects my clothes if I have to attend a do. On the sets, it's my designer who decides my attire.

When did you first realise you were grown up?

Never! (Laughs) I'm still growing...!
